When you write an eggPlant script, you write it to do whatever a user would do. So if you want to test an install, you might script opening a browser and downloading the installer, then opening the installer, and stepping through the installer screens. You might look for specific images or text on each installer panel if there are things like that that you need to verify. As for verifying that a registry file or entry exists, how would a user do that? You'd probably want your script to click the Start Menu, then click Run, and type "regedit" & return to launch the registry editor. Then navigate to the desired section of the registry and drill down to the key.

I hope that answers your question.
